A big decision after completing senior secondary education is whether to continue studying or working—a tough choice because it will determine many things in our life.

But of course, not everyone needs to go to college. College is a choice that is tertiary and does not determine success.

For those who are no longer interested in the academic environment, have constraints or have other plans. Not going to college is not the end of everything.

Many alternatives can be taken, for example, going straight to work, building a business, taking courses, making a hobby an income, or investing. Many out there are successful people without ever going to college.

For those who want to serve and become government employees immediately, then continue their education to service schools, police or military schools. And it is straightforward for those who choose academic professions, such as doctors or lawyers, to be obliged to go to college.

Well, lastly, for those who don’t have plans and constraints. Those who belong to the confused and indecisive determine the future.

They need to try college education for the following reasons. Because if done thoughtfully, studying at college can open up even more significant potential beyond the technical abilities one gets to work or get a job.

Source of Inspirations

The college environment provides an opportunity for inspiration to arise. During college, we will meet many people. One of the people we meet may be a source of inspiration in determining the future direction. For example, we will meet inspiring lecturers who have proven successful in pursuing the academic path, speakers in student activity forums with various unique perspectives that can open our eyes about the future, visionary classmates building the future, or other inspiration we get during activities and studying on campus.

Expand opportunities

Even without going to college, there are jobs out there that we can get. However, by going to college, there are more job options that we are likely to get. why? Because while in college, there are lots of opportunities to get a job that we can try even before graduation, namely by participating in activities such as internships, student exchanges, entrepreneurial programs, employee recruitment through campuses, or even through the relationships we have built while in college.

Make relations

With many interactions during college, we can form working relationships that can lead us to success. Relationships lead us to the “right people”, who pave the way for us to find the right future and career choices, for example, meeting lecturers who give projects, people we know during internships, or even relationships to build a joint business with friends studying.

Improve Thinking skills

Lecture activities are activities that are very conducive to training thinking. We often face discussion, question and answer, debate, decision-making, and scientific thinking in lectures. The ability to think will be awakened by this learning process so that we will get used to processing, analyzing and interpreting information.

Most of us might think these abilities have also been trained at the previous level of education, but there are significant differences at the stages of their development. At college, the age of students is the age of an adult human, so the mindset and logic that develops is the ability to think that is psychologically mature.

The ability to think is a fundamental ability that needs to be developed in college because it can avoid making wrong decisions that can harm oneself and others.

In addition, this thinking ability can also form idealism that prevents campus graduates from being “stuck” in the mindset and mentality that only wants to be an employee.

Prepare to be adults

We were going to college trains to become an adult, especially for those of us who had to “get out” of the house to study. We learn to live independently and learn to make life plans. We are faced with challenges and responsibilities as adult human beings. In addition, during college, we will be faced with situations of interaction with other people that train the skills of cooperation, communication, conflict management, and other life skills that we need to live as adult human beings.
